If.youre Happy and You Know It

"If Yous're Happy and Yous Know It" is a pop repetitive children's and drinking song. The song has been noted for its similarities to "Molodejnaya", a song appearing in the 1938 Soviet musical film Volga-Volga.[1]

History [edit]

The origin of the tune is non known, but numerous sources trace it back to Spain, Latin America, Latvia or the The states.

The song was published in various places through the decades following the late 1960s, including a volume of "constructive recreational activities" for children (1957),[2] a book of drama projects for disabled children (1967),[3] and a nursing abode manual (1966).[4]

In 1971, Jonico Music filed for copyright on the song, crediting it to Joe Raposo.[v]

During the early part of the 2000s, the music Recording Industry Association of America actively prosecuted individuals for downloading music using file-sharing services. Widespread media attending was paid to 1 12-year-old, whose downloads included "If You're Happy and You Know It" from Kazaa.[6] [7] [viii] [9]

In 2007, the song was included as part of the Nihon no Uta Hyakusen, a list of the 100 almost well-known folk songs in Nippon. It is one of nine songs from strange countries included on the listing. It was selected by the Agency of Cultural Diplomacy and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Associations of Japan.

In 2020, Granger Smith recorded a version that relied on booze drinking called "Land and Ya Know Information technology".[x]

Lyric variations [edit]

Like many children'due south songs, there are many versions of the lyrics. A popular version goes similar this:

If y'all're happy and you lot know it, clap your easily!
If y'all're happy and you know it, handclapping your easily!
If you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it;
If you're happy and you know information technology, handclapping your hands!

This poetry is usually followed by three more than, four more, etc. which follow the same pattern merely say: "If yous're happy and you know it, stomp/stamp your anxiety!", "If you lot're happy and you know it, shout/say 'hooray'!" or "shout/say 'amen'!", "If you're happy and you know information technology, practise all 3!" and "If y'all're happy and you know information technology, practice all iv!". Other versions of the song tend to say "so your confront will surely evidence it" in place of "and y'all really want to show it"; the class "then you really ought to show it" has too been used. Many variations on the substance of the first iii verses exist, including:[eleven]

"... shout/say, 'Hooray'!"
"... slap your knees!"
"... slap your legs!"
"... plow around!"
"... snap your fingers!"
"... nod your head!"
"... tap your toe!"
"... honk your nose!"
"... pat your head!"
"... shout/say, 'We are'!"
"... stomp/postage your anxiety!"
"... shout/say, 'Ha, ha'!"
"... shout/say, 'Amen'!"
"... do all iii!"
"... do all 4!"
